Crossing the divide: the voices heard on both Football Weekly and The Totally Football Show

In Sep 2017 James Richardson left the Guardian's Football Weekly to launch The Totally Football Show, and took a chunk of the panel with him. Since then the two pods have run side by side, and very few voices have been heard on both.

The split

The Totally Football Show's first episode came out on 7 Sep 2017. Alongside Richardson it drew on Football Weekly regulars: Raphael Honigstein, James Horncastle, Iain Macintosh and Michael Cox. Between them, the 5 had made 1,465 Football Weekly appearances before the split. None of them has been on Football Weekly since.

A rare crossing

Of the 229 people heard on Football Weekly since Sep 2017, only 30 (about 13%) have also turned up on The Totally Football Show. Most did it once or twice. Only 7 have appeared at least 3 times on each.

How this is counted

  • Appearances on the main Football Weekly and The Totally Football Show feeds from 7 Sep 2017, when The Totally Football Show launched, to 13 Oct 2026. Spin-off feeds, such as The Totally Football League and the separate Women's Football Weekly feed, aren't included.
  • Every role counts: presenting, panel, guest or interview.
  • Participants come from episode titles and show notes (see how it works), so a voice who wasn't named in the notes won't show up here.
